Born in 1973, Liu Bolin is an internationally recognized Chinese contemporary artist known for his photographic camouflage technique. Nicknamed "the invisible man," he blends into carefully composed backdrops to question the individual's place in society, visibility, identity, and the major challenges of the contemporary world.

Created in 2015, The Future is an emblematic work in which Liu Bolin disappears within a vibrant mosaic composed of the flags of United Nations member states and the symbols of the Sustainable Development Goals. The work was created in the context of the launch of the Global Goals, an international initiative aimed at combating poverty, hunger, inequality, and environmental fragility.

Visually, the work strikes with its chromatic intensity. The flags form a dense, almost architectural composition, where national colors blend with the universal icons of sustainable development.
